EPLAN Software & Service, June 2002: An exceptional sales
success in the USA
The world’s largest car manufacturer opts for EPLAN 21
The US-American company, General
Motors Corporation, has announced its decision to implement the
powerful E-CAE software EPLAN 21.
This success is not only a milestone in terms of expansion of business in the
US, but also provides EPLAN Software & Services with a first class reference
customer for further acquisitions in the North American market..
Up to now, GM
has employed a variety of CAE systems within the company group. The German Adam
Opel AG and all its European plants, have been successfully using EPLAN
for a number of years, and now following an intensive evaluation of a variety of
systems, the go ahead for the American market has also be given.Having concluded
the pre-selection phase, 3 companies were then scrutinised by the GM
project team in an extensive test phase. Decisive factors for this decision were
not only EPLAN 21’s
extremely positive product evaluation, but also the expertise of the software
house, further strengthened by the intensive support of the Key Account Team.
The new CAE tool’s task is the automation of the entire engineering process,
expectations that go way beyond that of mere drafting functionality. A decisive
role here was played by API
(Application Programming Interface), which allows the user to carry
out special programming and individual customisation in line with existing
processes and systems.
The system’s specification defined not only the technical, but also the
commercial targets of this project. The automation of project management and
documentation, the utilisation of mutual resources, global standardisation and
the exchange of data were important decision criteria in assessing the technical
requirements. However, commercial issues, such as reduction of project
management duration and costs, and quality improvement also greatly contributed
to this success, from which EPLAN Software & Services expects to see a
distinct expansion of its US business.
