EPLAN
Software & Service, March 2002
Open to international requirements
The new version of EPLAN 5.40
was launched at the beginning of this year. A versatile range of functions, including multi-lingual support and interfaces in various
directions, ensure that this popular CAE software is ideally suited to international
requirements.
Open in many directions
A wide range of interfaces allows various different segments of
the company to be included in the process chain. For example, EDM/PDM systems may be linked via the EXF interface (EPLAN
Exchange Format), which was carefully designed by the consulting department of EPLAN Software & Service to reflect
customer requirements. A wide variety of different systems may be connected. EPLAN
project data, page header information and individual project pages in TIF format are administered in the
EDM/PDM system, giving customers fast, easy access to entire projects, individual data or targeted information at component
level.
The established DXF interface not only supports the import of AutoCAD data, but conversely also allows the export of
EPLAN data into the AutoCAD drawing. This function is primarily used in
location drawings such as enclosure layouts. Existing Rittal
enclosure macros (RiGeo) can also be read in EPLAN 5.40
with the DXF interface, thus providing additional support for the work process.
The Rittal enclosure data is converted into EPLAN
format, and can therefore be transferred in the form of comprehensive project planning data.
One system - many languages
The multi-lingual support offered by EPLAN
5 is another key issue in today's era of increasing globalisation. EPLAN 5.40
offers an online translation facility which adds the desired languages directly to the circuit diagram. The built-in dictionary
may be individually extended and automatically supplies the correct terminology after incorporating new data. Parameters
may be set specifying the required languages for documentation output, irrespective of which language was used for project
planning.
EPLAN 5.40 is available in 15 languages, thus allowing global
players to supply their foreign operations with country-specific variants.
